Director Nominee

Thomas Dore

Taber Container Depot

BIO:

My name is Thomas Dore and I am the Manager of the Taber Bottle Depot. Taber is a rural depot processing about 9 million containers a year.

I have been on the ABDA Board for 7 years, 3 of which have been as Treasurer and 2 as Vice Chair

I originally entered the bottle depot industry in 1998 as the Manager of the Shamrock Bottle Depot in Medicine Hat until its sale in 2002. During that time, I developed a good working relationship with the owner of Taber Bottle Depot, Ray Tymko. and in 2014 I assumed management of the Taber Bottle Depot.

Taber has won numerous Industry Excellence Awards. We strive to operate at a consistently high level of Customer Service, accuracy in refunds and shipping, supply inventory management and the use of QMS.

Taber was the original test site for the RePOR software in 2016. This was an exciting, if not challenging, time to ensure the system’s stability to facilitate the roll out to other depots.

Being on the Board for the last seven years has taught me some valuable lessons:

  1. To be open and receptive to hearing other Directors’ points of view.

  2. To be a good listener; and hear what the membership is saying and asking for.

  3. The role of an ABDA Director is one of governance and not management. Directors should take the “Noses in, hands off” approach.

I am always prepared for every meeting. I ask questions and I am always willing to put forward my point of view. When I vote on a motion, I do so with the best interests of our membership.

In 2020, I joined the BCMB Board as a Depot sector rep.
