Spike in Overnight Thefts from Trailers

Attention Depot Operators and Staff,

The Beverage Container Management Board (BCMB) received notification from one of the Southern Alberta Depots that they have recently had an increase in overnight thefts from their trailers while they are positioned on their loading dock.

The BCMB would like to remind all Depots to ensure that shipping supplies and beverage containers are stored in compliance with section 4.5 of the Beverage Container Depot Operation and Administration By-law:

“A Depot must have a secure, indoor storage area for the storage of beverage containers and shipping containers supplied by the collection system agent…”

In this case, it seems that storage on the trailer is not enough of a deterrent to theft. The Depot has advised that they will be enhancing their theft prevention devices and that others in this area may wish to do the same. If you are situated in this region, you may want to take extra precautions.

If a theft should occur, please ensure that after notifying local authorities you also contact the BCMB to advise us of the incident. We will send a notification out to the Depot network to let them know a theft has occurred in their region and to follow CVR processes if potentially stolen material arrives at their Depot.
